Aegis Mind exists to make dementia prevention research accessible, actionable, and honest. This page explains how we create our content, what standards we hold ourselves to, and how you can hold us accountable.
We translate peer-reviewed brain health research into clear, practical guidance that anyone can use. We believe that the science of dementia prevention is too important to remain buried in academic journals and government pamphlets. Our goal is to bridge the gap between what researchers know and what people actually do — without hype, fear, or false promises.
Our content is anchored to two primary bodies of evidence:
The 2024 Lancet Commission on Dementia Prevention, Intervention, and Care (Livingston et al., 2024) — the most comprehensive framework for dementia prevention, identifying 14 modifiable risk factors that collectively account for approximately 45% of dementia cases worldwide.
The FINGER Trial (Ngandu et al., 2015) — the first large-scale randomized controlled trial to demonstrate that a multi-domain lifestyle intervention can improve or maintain cognitive function in at-risk older adults.
We also draw on a wide range of peer-reviewed studies published in journals including The Lancet, PNAS, JAMA, Neurology, Alzheimer’s & Dementia, and others. Every factual claim on this site is supported by at least one cited source.
Research. Every article begins with a review of the relevant peer-reviewed literature. We prioritize systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and large randomized controlled trials. We also review what currently ranks well for our target topics to ensure our content adds genuine value beyond what already exists.
Drafting. Articles are drafted with AI assistance (Claude by Anthropic) and reviewed by our editorial team. AI helps us synthesize research efficiently, but every claim is verified against primary sources before publication.
Review. All content is reviewed for scientific accuracy, appropriate language, and clarity. [Medical reviewer information — TBD: We are actively seeking a qualified medical reviewer or advisory board member. Until this role is filled, we note this transparently and encourage readers to consult their healthcare professionals.]
Publication. Every page includes a “Last reviewed” date, a full sources section with links to primary research, and a medical disclaimer.
Updates. We review all published content on a quarterly basis. When new research changes our guidance, we update the relevant pages and note the revision date. We do not silently alter published content.
We are careful with language because words matter — especially when people are scared about their cognitive health.
We use: “associated with,” “research suggests,” “may help,” “has been linked to,” “the evidence indicates”
We never use: “proves,” “prevents,” “protects against,” “guarantees,” “cures”
We frame our guidance around lifestyle habits and risk reduction, not cognitive improvement guarantees. We are aware of the Lumosity FTC precedent and take care to avoid any language that implies our content or tools can prevent, treat, or cure dementia.
Aegis Mind is an independent project. Our content recommendations are based solely on published research, not commercial relationships. We do not accept payment from supplement companies, pharmaceutical companies, or other organizations in exchange for coverage or endorsement.
Aegis Mind operates a brain health coaching app. Our website content naturally connects to the app where relevant, but the content is designed to be genuinely valuable on its own. We will always tell you what the research says, even when it doesn’t support a feature of our app.
If you find an error in our content, disagree with our interpretation of the research, or have questions about our editorial process, we want to hear from you.
